Two children among six hurt after Co Kildare car crash

Gsoc inquiry into Monasterevin incident involving vehicle earlier pursued by gardaí

Six people, including two children, were injured when a car which had earlier been pursued by gardaí crashed into another car in Co Kildare.

The children, aged two and seven, along with an adult male, the driver of the car, were taken to Tullamore Hospital.

The driver and the two passengers in the car being watched by gardaí were all teenagers or in their early twenties.

One occupant was seriously injured and taken to Tallaght Hospital. He has now been transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

The other two men in the car where taken to Tullamore General Hospital and to Tallaght Hospital.

The incident happened just after midday on a road in Ballagh outside Monasterevin on the main Portarlington to Monasterevin Road.

Local residents reported ambulances and a helicopter at the scene.

The car had come to the attention of the gardaí earlier, but a garda spokesman said the details of the incident were now a matter for the Garda Síochana Ombudsman Commission (Gsoc).

Gardaí are appealing for witness to the incident to contact them at Kildare Garda station on (045) 527730.
