Three people killed in crashes on M50 and in Galway and Kildare

Gardaí ask members of public not to share crash images

Three people died in crashes on Ireland’s roads on Thursday in Dublin, Kildare and Galway.

A woman died in a multi-vehicle collision on Dublin's M50 involving a truck and a car at about 11.30am on the slip road at Junction 5, Finglas.

The driver in one of the cars, a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The driver of a second car, a man in his 50s, was taken to Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown by ambulance for treatment but his condition was not thought to be life threatening.

In the wake of the crash gardaí said they were aware of images being taken at the crash site and circulated on social media and asked people not to do so out of respect for the family of the dead woman and those involved in the collision.

Meanwhile, an 80-year-old woman died following a collision between two vehicles at Kilrickle, Loughrea, Co Galway. The crash happened at about 9am on Thursday. The woman who died was a passenger in the car. She was taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe where she died a short time later.

At about 6.50pm, a male pedestrian in his 40s was seriously injured when he was struck by a 4x4 on Dublin Road, Monasterevin, Co Kildare. He was treated at the scene by emergency services but died a short time later.
