Three men in court over €50,000 cocaine seizure

Nigerian-born men charged with possession for sale and supply at Midleton District Court

Three men have appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of more than €50,000 worth of cocaine by gardaí and customs in a joint operation in Co Cork earlier this week.

The three men were brought before Midleton District Court on Wednesday following the controlled delivery operation involving gardaí and customs officers in Cobh on Monday afternoon.

The three Nigerian-born men, two of whom are naturalised Irish citizens. were each charged with two offences relating to the drug seizure at Carrigaloe on the outskirts of Cobh.

Ojie Chuckuwma (32), Felix Tamasang (28) and Chuckuwma Oyibo (45) were each charged with possession of cocaine and possession for sale or supply on October 19th.

Mr Chuckuwma from Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, Mr Tamasang from Pearse Square in Cobh and Mr Oyibo from Richmond Road, Fairview, Dublin 3 were all represented in court.

Det Garda Bill Dillane gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in relation to all three and said Mr Chuckuwma replied "I know nothing about that" while the other two made no reply.

Det Garda Dillane said gardaí were preparing a file for the DPP and that further charges may follow in relation to the seizure of the 0.75kg of the drug with a street value of €50,000.

Judge Brian Sheridan remanded each in custody with consent to bail on their own bond of €1,000 to appear again at Midleton District Court on Thursday.
