Third man arrested over Vinnie Ryan murder

A third man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Dubliner Vinnie Ryan.

The man (43) was detained on Thursday evening. He is currently being held in Blanchardstown Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

Gardaí hunting the killer of Mr Ryan have also seized computers, communications devices and a satellite positioning device from the home of another suspect.

The 34 year-old suspect was detained at Blanchardstown Garda station after a late night sitting of the district court extended the time he can be detained by 24 hours.

He has since been released.

Another suspect remains in custody in Finglas Garda station.

Vinnie Ryan (25), who was the brother of murdered Real IRA chief Alan Ryan, died in hospital after he was ambushed and shot 13 times in the head and upper body as he sat in a car outside his partner’s home on February 29th in Dublin.

Mr Ryan was sitting alone in a white Volkswagen Golf at about 3.15pm after dropping his partner and infant child to their home on McKee Road in Finglas.

A silver five-door Volkswagen Golf with alloy wheels pulled up alongside the car and an occupant fired a number of shots into the vehicle.

The car sped from the scene towards Clune Road and Jamestown Road in Finglas and was later found burnt out in the Victoria Bridge area on the Naas to Rathangan Road.

Mr Ryan had been warned his life was in danger, and the shooting was the second time in a few months he had been targeted.

CCTV records

Gardaí are also monitoring CCTV records from streets in the area where Mr Ryan was shot and are examining a Kia Sorrento SUV which was in the area at the time of the killing.

Gardaí have interviewed about 200 people in relation to the murder and have taken about 160 statements.
