Temperatures to plummet as cold snap bites

Met Éireann issues weather warning and AA roadwatch warns of icy roads

The cold snap continues across most parts of the country with Met Éireann issuing a yellow weather warning that will continue until 10 am on Monday.

Yellow weather warnings are issued for weather conditions that do not pose an immediate threat to the general population, but only to those exposed to risk by nature of their location or activity.

Sunny spells and light breezes will persist through the afternoon with hightest temperatures of 3 and 7 degrees.

Temperatures will drop after dark, making tonight very cold with temperatures as low as minus 6 degrees. Frost will become widespread with patches of fog and freezing fog developing across parts of the country.

AA Roadwatch have warned that ice persists in many places on Sunday and is causing dangerous driving conditions in Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Laois, Carlow, Longford, Wicklow and Cork. Motorists are warned to drive with caution on secondary routes.

It was extremely cold on Saturday night with widespread severe frost and icy patches.
