Christmas has come early for a Cork-based syndicate who won Saturday night’s €3.88 million National Lottery jackpot.

The 10-person syndicate all work on the Cheestrings production line at the Kerry Group factory in Charleville. They had been trying their luck for 12 years.

A spokesperson for the company said the syndicate didn’t realise they had won the jackpot until Monday, after the ticket holder looked at it with the rest of the group.

The winning ticket was sold in the Spar shop in Ballingarry, Co Limerick, run by Limerick hurling captain Donal O’Grady.
