Social fabric: In memory of the Lockout

Volunteers and community groups join to create panels telling story of 1913 dispute

The 1913 Tapestry exhibition was opened officially yesterday evening at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.

More than 200 volunteers from 30 community organisations came together to create individual panels that depict the story of the 1913 Lockout.

Launched by Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn, the event is the result of a collaborative arts project run by the college in conjunction with Siptu. Under the expert eye of artists Cathy Henderson and Robert Ballagh, the completed work is comprised of multimedia textile pieces laid out in comic-book style.
