Revolut founder Vlad Yatsenko has donated €100,000 and pledged up to €1 million to the Late Late Toy Show appeal after users experienced problems with the banking app on Friday night.
Many viewers of the RTÉ programme complained that they were unable to donate money via a function set up on Revolut for the event, as the app kept crashing.
Other viewers said the problems predated the Late Late Toy Show appeal as the app was struggling with demand as a result of Black Friday.

Mr Yatsenko, a Ukrainian billionaire based in London, tweeted on Saturday morning: “What an incredible support @RevolutApp customers gave to a worthy charity @RTELateLateShow! Friday night some services remained completely unavailable while others were hit by a slowdown. Some customers were unable to sign into the app, while others could not make card payments.
Some users also found they were unable to transfer money or top up their accounts via their bank cards. Currency exchange was also affected.
The company’s system status page showed six services were at least partially affected by the outage.
“There are currently issues affecting our app functionalities,” Revolut’s official Twitter account announced on Friday. “We’re already working to have this resolved as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
The fintech company says it has 1.5 million Irish customers.
On Saturday afternoon RTÉ said the Toy Show appeal had already raised more than €5 million.
