A woman in her 70s has died in a car crash in Co Meath.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene on the N2 at Balrath Cross following the collision between a car and a van at about 3.35pm.

The woman, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed to the mortuary at Navan Hospital where a postmortem is due to take place.

No other injuries were reported in the aftermath of the crash.

The road where the collision occurred remained closed on Friday night with local diversions in place. A technical examination of the scene was being carried out by forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and any road users with video or dash-cam footage is asked to make this available to them.
