Pedestrian killed after being struck by a car on N2

A man has been killed after he was struck by a car on the N2 at Finglas early on Saturday morning.

The incident happened at about 3am inbound on the dual carriageway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí have not established his identity at this stage. His body has been removed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown. The driver of the car, a man aged 50, was uninjured in the collision.

The stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by investigators and local diversions are in place. The road is expected to open shortly after 10am.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and asking anyone who may have been on that stretch of road between 2.30am and 3am on Saturday to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 6667500, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
