Pedestrian (19) killed crossing road in Drogheda

Gardaí appealing for witnesses to fatal road incident just north of Louth town

Gardaí are investigating a fatal traffic incident in which a 19-year-old man was killed as he crossed the road in Drogheda.

The pedestrian was struck by a car on the old N1, five miles north of Drogheda, at about 8.30pm last night.

The male driver of the car, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was uninjured in the crash.

The deceased man was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where a full post-mortem is to be arranged.

The Monasterboice exit from the M1 travelling south was closed overnight to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.
