Passenger dies as car hits tree in north Co Dublin

A man aged 22 died last night when the car he was a passenger in hit a tree in north Co Dublin.

The single-vehicle incident happened on the R130 in Baldwinstown/Garristown at about 9.35pm.

The passenger was fatally injured upon impact and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were removed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where a full postmortem will take place today.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

The road was closed this morning to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators, and diversions are in place.
