One of two bodies taken from sea in Galway is missing soldier Ben Garrett

DNA analysis will be used to check if second body is missing Roscommon man

Post-mortems are taking place in Galway on the bodies of two men recovered from the sea over the weekend.

Gardaí have identified one of the men as Private Ben Garrett, originally from Castlebar, Co Mayo, who was reported missing on March 31st. He was recovered from the water close to the docks yesterday morning.

The discovery brings to an end a major search and an appeal from his family and friends. Private Garrett was stationed at Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa barracks in Renmore, Galway. He was last seen in the Eglington Street area of the city at around 1.45am.

The 21-year-old soldier had been celebrating at Carbon nightclub after marching in the Easter Sunday military parade in Dublin.

Tests on the other body, which was recovered from the sea on Saturday about 1km south of Hare island in Galway Bay, are continuing.

DNA analysis will be used to ascertain if the body is that of Anthony Henehan, from Kiltoom, Co Roscommon. He was last seen near Wolfe Tone Bridge in Galway city on March 10th.
