Model Glenda Gilson marries in Co Clare

Exposé TV presenter and businessman Rob McNaughton wed in Kilrush ceremony

Model and TV presenter Glenda Gilson turned up a fashionable 36 minutes late for her wedding today in an overcast but mainly dry Kilrush in Co Clare.

The 33-year-old married Dublin businessman Rob MacNaughton at St Senan’s Church where about 100 onlookers had gathered to catch a glimpse of the bride.

Wearing an ivory Vera Wang dress with a sweetheart shaped bodice and and layers of silk, the Exposé presenter arrived at 2.36pm having previously said she wouldn’t keep Rob waiting more than 15 minutes. The wedding ceremony was due to being at 2pm.

She posed for photographs inside a white Audi car before stepping out to cheers and some whistling. She was ushered quickly through the gates and up the few steps to the church where she posed for very brief photo shoot.

Two men wearing black suits and ear pieces prevented press photographers and locals stepping inside to get photos.

Seconds later the bride stepped inside to the music of the Halleluia Gospel Choir.

A steady stream of guests had arrived from about 1.30pm and despite the heavy rain earlier, it stayed dry but overcast.

They included models Alison Canavan and Gail Kaneswaran, model and actress Vivienne Connolly and TV presenter Louise Loughman.

TV presenter and actor Keith Duffy arrived with his wife Lisa.

X-Factor judge Louis Walsh arrived with PR person Joanne Byrne to cheers from dozens of fans.

He posed for press photographers, politely declining to do the X-Factor pose, but stood in for pictures with some of his admirers.

Two florists were employed to decorate the church for the wedding. One provided decorative trees up along the aisle while another brought flowers in from Holland to decorate the church.

Outside, a floral arch with real grapes stood in front of the church door.

Inside, before the bride arrived, an announcement was made telling guests they could take photographs but asked them not to post any on social media.

Parish priest Fr Michael Sheedy officiated at the ceremony and the happy couple were officially pronounced husband and wife at 3.08pm.

The happy couple later travelled to Donald Trump’s luxurious Doonbeg resort in Co Clare. Billionaire Trump bought the property earlier this year for over €8 million.

Glenda Gilson is not the first celebrity to be married in Kilrush in recent times or to have a wedding reception at the Doonbeg resort.

Last December, Stereophonics lead singer Kelly Jones and MTV journalist Jakki Healy were hitched in the same church and also held their reception at the Lodge in Doonbeg.

Among the guests were Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and The Jam's Paul Weller.

In August 2009, Andrea Corr and millionaire business Bret Desmond married in Miltown Malbay and they also had their reception in Doonbeg. Their over 400 guests included U2 singer Bono, then Scottish football manager Gordon Strachan and Irish golfer Padraig Harrington.
