Passenger on Oscar Wilde ferry was reported overboard shortly after 6pm

A man is being treated in hospital in Wexford after he fell overboard from a ferry off the Rosslare coast yesterday evening.

He was a passenger on the Oscar Wilde ferry and was reported overboard shortly after 6pm. The France-bound ferry was less than 2km from Rosslare Harbour when the incident occurred.

Dublin Coast Guard was alerted and the Rosslare life boat and helicopter were mobilised, but the man was recovered by a rescue boat from the Isle of Inishmore ferry which was nearby.

He was treated for shock by an ambulance at Rosslare Harbour before being taken to Wexford General Hospital.
