A man in his 20s has been hospitalised after being shot a number of times in an attack in Dublin city.

The young man was shot in the leg and abdomen at about 6.15pm at Cherry Orchard Parade in south Dublin city.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and brought to St James’s Hospital.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan condemned the attack. “This evening’s shooting is an attack on the whole community. The shooting is wrong and it is unacceptable,” he said. “It shows a blatant disregard for innocent passers by. I strongly condemn it. I urge anyone with information to come forward to Gardaí.

“Local Gardaí need to be fully resourced and supported to tackle the serious level of gun crime in this part of Dublin.”
