Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have begun separate investigations after a young man died at a dairy in west Cork.

The man, named locally as Feargal Beamish (26), died after he suffered crush injuries while working in Clona Dairies in Clonakilty yesterday morning

It is believed Mr Beamish, from Carrigroe outside Clonakilty, was fatally injured when he was struck by a shunting unit used to move trailers at the dairy.

The emergency services were alerted, but Mr Beamish was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.

His body was brought to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem.
