A man has died in a crash in north Cork. The accident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning when a car and truck collided on the N72 Cork- Killarney Road between Longfield Bridge and Lombardstown Cross.

Emergency services including the Garda, fire brigade members from Mallow and Kanturk, and ambulance personnel rushed to the scene at 4.30am.

The man who died was the sole occupant of the car. It is understood he was in his thirties. The driver of the lorry was not seriously injured.

However, he was shaken by the incident. The road where the crash occurred will remain closed this morning.

Diversions are in place through Glantane and Lombardstown.
