Man charged with Kerry double murder remanded in custody

A 26-year-old man has been further remanded in custody charged with the murders of a young mother and her eight-year-old daughter whose bodies were found in their rented home in Co Kerry last month.

Aurimas Andruska made his fourth court appearance when he appeared at Cork District Court this morning charged with the murder of Jolanta Lubiene (27) and her daughter, Enrika, at their home at Langford Downs in Killorglin on June 15th.

The bodies of the mother and daughter were found in the two storey semi-detached house by gardaí who called there on June 16th after a friend in the Lithuanian community was unable to make contact with Ms Lubiene who worked in a local nursing home in Killorglin.

Mr Andruska was first charged with the killings at a special sitting of Killarney District Court on June 28th and since then had made two further court appearances in Co Kerry on the double murder charges.

On the last occasion at Tralee District Court, Judge James O’Connor remanded Mr Andruska in custody to appear today at Cork District Court by video link from the Midlands Prison where he is currently being held.

Insp Pat Meaney told Cork District Court he had been in touch with the investigation team in Killarney this morning and the book of evidence was not yet ready in the case.

He applied for a further two week remand in custody to allow for preparation and service of the book of evidence and defence solicitor, Adrian Hegarty noted the application and said he was not making any submissions on behalf of his client.

Judge Leo Malone granted the state's application and remanded Mr Andruska in continuing custody to appear again at Cork District Court on July 31st by video link for preparation service of the book of evidence.

Ms Lubiene and her daughter, Enrika were buried in Gadunas near her home town of Gedrimai in northern Lithuania earlier month following a funeral service attended by her husband and Enrika's father, Marius Lubys, her parents and siblings.
