Car left the road, hit a ditch and crashed into an oncoming car at Cappog, Ballinode yesterday

An 84-year-old man has died after the car he was driving left the road and hit a ditch before crashing into an oncoming car in Co Monaghan yesterday.

An 84-year-old man has died after the car he was driving left the road and hit a ditch before crashing into an oncoming car in Co Monaghan yesterday.

The incident happened at Cappog, Ballinode at about midday yesterday. The driver of the other car, a 37-year-old woman was uninjured.

The road was closed for a technical examination but has now reopened. Any witnesses are asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047 - 77200 the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
