Man (30) in critical condition after Co Leitrim assault

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the attack in Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday

A 30-year-old man is in a critical condition following an assault in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, on Sunday.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the assault on Main Street.

Gardaí responded to a call just before 4am that a man had been assaulted in the area.

The victim was taken to Sligo University Hospital, where his condition was described as critical.

The man had been in an altercation on a footpath with a group of people, both male and female, near the junction of Bridge Street, when the argument continued onto the road.

Gardaí have interviewed a number of witnesses and viewed CCTV covering the area.
