The M9 northbound is closed following a collision between a lorry and a jeep towing a trailer carrying livestock.

Motorists are being warned of long delays and are advised to divert if possible.

Gardaí are working to remove vehicles and sheep from the road and said a vet is at the scene.

The collision happened between junction 2 (Kilcullen) and junction 3 (Athy).

Gardaí said they expect to reopen one lane shortly after 9am.
