Larry Gogan to move to weekend broadcasting

RTÉ 2fm's longest standing presenter Larry Gogan is leaving weekday radio.

Gogan (75), who is moving back to a weekend slot, is the only 2fm presenter along with Dave Fanning still broadcasting on the station since its inception in 1979.

The much-anticipated move is part of a station revamp by RTÉ 2fm's new controller Dan Healy which has already seen a new breakfast crew being put in place. Former Westlife singer Nicky Byrne will move to the 11am to 1pm slot to replace Colm Hayes who is taking over Drivetime.

The announcement was made this morning by Ryan Tubridy on 2fm who praised his colleague's "amazing voice".

“This isn’t a tribute to Larry because he is still going to be here,” he said.

Tubridy said he did not know what slot Gogan will be getting. It will be announced as part of a rollout of changes at 2fm.

Gogan was previously moved to a weekend slot but was restored to his Golden Hour between 1pm and 2pm by the former 2fm controller John McMahon.

Tubridy said: “There’s so much change going on here with Jennifer (Maguire), Bernard (O’Shea) and Keith (Walsh), with Nicky Byrne coming in at 11 o’clock.”
