Large crowds pay tribute to Ben O’Sullivan

Large crowds are expected at the funeral, Monday, of the decorated garda detective Ben O’Sullivan, who died on Friday, 26 years after he sustained 11 gunshot wounds in an IRA gun attack.

Hundreds of people attended the reposing of Mr O’Sullivan, a two-time recipient of the Scott Gold Medal for bravery, at Griffin’s Funeral Home, John’s Gate, Limerick City, on Sunday night.

The funeral cortege will travel via Mr O’Sullivan’s family home on Monday arriving for 1pm requiem mass at St Mary’s Church, Athlunkard Street, Limerick, followed by a private burial afterwards in Kilcornan Cemetery, in West county Limerick.

Mr O’Sullivan, (78), who is survived by his wife Anne, son John, and daughters Marianne, Evelyn and Aoife, died surrounded by his family, at Milford Hospice, Co Limerick, following a short illness.
