Baby girl was born at National Maternity Hospital on Holles Street in Dublin

Ireland’s first baby of 2022 was born at a second past midnight on New Year’s Day.

The baby girl was born at the National Maternity Hospital on Holles Street in Dublin to Selina and Nathan Burke.

Mr Burke said he and his wife were “over the moon” at the arrival of their daughter , who weighed 6lbs 6oz, and that mother and baby are both doing well. They have not yet decided on a name, he said.

At University Hospital Limerick, baby Ruth was born at 14 seconds after midnight to parents Jennifer Leahy and Patrick Hogan from Croagh, Co Limerick.

Meanwhile, the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin welcomed its first baby of the year at 1.37am.

Baby Carter was born in the hospital to parents Ciara and Graham Claxton from Hollystown, Dublin.
