Irish teacher working in Thailand dies in crash

An Irish teacher working in Thailand has died in a motorcycle crash.

Denis Bates (30), who was from Dublin, died after falling off his motorcycle late on Friday night on the island of Phuket.

He was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital but did not emerge from a coma and was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the case and it is providing consular assistance from the Irish embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

It is understood Mr Bates had been teaching at the Baan Maireab School in Phuket.
