Ray Prendiville, a former inter-county footballer with Kerry, is understood to have been shot last night.

Mr Prendiville, who was in his 60s, previously worked as a garda and was involved in the security business in Namibia.

He won a Munster football championship with Kerry in 1975, marking his only senior championship appearance with a goal in a victory against Tipperary.

Mr Prendiville played with the Scartaglin GAA club in Kerry before moving to Dublin.
