There is a disconnect between most people’s stated love of animals and a diet which is almost entirely reliant on animals. And while most people are happy to remain entirely oblivious to where their food comes from and how it is produced, journalist Henry Mance is not one of those people.
In his new book, How to Love Animals in a Human-Shaped World, he lifts the curtain on our treatment of animals and the damage our diet is doing to the planet.
In it he works undercover in slaughterhouses and on farms. He goes hunting and he details - in sometimes gory detail - the consequences of our dietary habits.
He talks to Conor Pope about why he’s calling for an urgent change in our relationship with animals.
In the News is presented by reporters Sorcha Pollak and Conor Pope.
