The death of a 20-year-old woman in a single vehicle crash in Co Wexford has brought to four the number of people killed on Irish roads since Christmas Day.

The woman was the sole occupant of a car that left the road and struck a wall at Camblin, New Ross, at about 4.50pm on Saturday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed to University Hospital Waterford.

The road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions were put in place.

An 18-year-old man died earlier on St Stephen's Day following a three-vehicle collision in Co Cavan.

The young man was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was driving collided with another car and a truck at Kilcogy at about 7.30am.

His body has been removed to Cavan General Hospital, no-one else was injured and gardaí investigating the crash have asked witnesses to call Cavan Garda station on 049 4368800.

Four people have died on Irish roads over Christmas and St Stephen’s Day.

A teenager was killed on Christmas morning when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a second motorcyclist in Cherry Orchard. Gardaí are also investigating the circumstances around the death of a 29-year-old pedestrian in Carlow who was hit by a car on Christmas evening.

Overall, seven people under the age of 30 have been killed as a result of road traffic collisions since December 21st, as well as a 58-year-old mother who died alongside her 22 year-old daughter after the car they were travelling in crashed into a swollen river in Fermoy.

A total of 161 people have died on the State’s roads so far this year. The number of road fatalities in 2014 was 196.
