Dublin Fire Brigade brings blaze that started on building’s roof under control

Dublin firefighters have brought a blaze at the Vicar Street music venue under control.

According to Dublin Fire Brigade, the fire started on the roof of the building.

Thomas Street in Dublin city has reopened after being closed amid the blaze, which broke out at the rear of the building.

Firefighters from Dublin Fire Brigade’s city headquarters, along with units from Dolphin’s Barn and Donnybrook, tackled the blaze together.

The fire was first reported just before noon today, and thick grey smoke could be seen billowing into the air.

The fire was brought under control about 1pm. “Crews are turning-over and damping down any hotspots,” Dublin Fire Brigade said on its Twitter account. “Firefighters prevented any significant spread of the fire.”

As of 1.30pm, the firefighters had left the scene and the building was handed back to its operators.

It is still unclear to what extent the building has been damaged.

In a statement, gardaí said: “There have been no reports of any injuries at this time. Garda enquiries are ongoing.”
