About 50,000 homes were left with no electricity in Co Kerry after a power outage on Friday morning.

An ESB spokesman said there was a transmission fault at their station at Laharn in Tralee at 9.30am.

The station is one of the main switching stations in the county.

Crews from the utility company immediately carried out repairs to return power to customers in west Kerry, Tralee and Killarney.

The spokesman said ESB networks apologised for any inconvenience caused to people as a result of the outage.

He said electricity was returned to all customers by 10.20am.
