Cyclist (72) dies after colliding with a car in Co Tipperary

Driver (51) was not injured after incident on the main Borrisokane to Portumna road

A 72-year-old man has died after his bicycle collided with a car in Borrisokane, Co Tipperary on Friday morning.

The incident happened on the main Borrisokane to Portumna road, in the townland of Lahinch, at about 9.30am.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out.

The driver of the car, a 51-year-old woman, was the only person in the car and she was not injured.

The road is closed for forensic examinations and diversions are in place.

Gardai in Borrisokane are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 067 27101.
