A significant amount of south Dublin is without water on Friday night after a major pipeline burst.

Irish Water said urgent repairs were being carried out on the water main but it is unlikely to be fixed until just before dawn on Saturday.

In addition to the loss of water supply, significant traffic disruption is likely overnight while repair teams respond to the issue.

The water outage is likely to impact Leeson Street, Ballsbridge, Stillorgan, Blackrock, Donnybrook, Merrion, Booterstown, Clonskeagh, Ranelagh, Rathmines, Terenure, Rathfarnham, Windy Arbour and surrounding areas in Dublin city.

Irish Water said the repair works would likely to be completed at around 6am and that those in affected properties should allow two to three hours after the estimated restoration time for supplies to fully return.
