Ireland travel with just one goalkeeper

Hockey: Ireland will travel to a four-nation tournament in Egypt with only one goalkeeper. Mark Ruddle and Gareth Lennox are both unavailable due to academic commitments, leaving Corinthian's Charlie Henderson as the only available keeper.

"The situation is unavoidable but, with Nigel Henderson and Wesley Bateman having retired after Rome (European Nations Trophy), we do not want to put a young keeper in before they are ready or have gained senior experience," said coach David Passmore.

"Goalkeeper coach Nigel Henderson will stay on standby back in Ireland in case his younger brother gets injured."

Ireland play the hosts, Poland and Italy in the Cairo tournament, which begins on February 25th.

Squad: A Barbour (Cookstown); J Black; M Black, S Nicholson (Cork Harlequins); P Brown, M Irwin (Instonians); K Burns, D Hobbs, J Jermyn (Cork C of I); T Cockram (Lisnagarvey); M Gleghorne (Loughborough Students); R Gormley, J Sherriff (Pembroke Wanderers); C Henderson  (gk, Corinthian); I Lewers (Annadale); E Magee (Banbridge); P Maguire (Dublin University); G Shaw (Glenanne).
