Ireland 1 Malaysia 1:A 66th-minute goal from John Jermyn earned Ireland the draw they required to make it through to the final of the Olympic qualifier at Belfield tomorrow as they dominated their clash with Malaysia.
With Malaysia having lost to Korea, Ireland needed only a point from today’s sold out game, but their plans were hit when Siqri Noor Mohd opened the scoring for the Asian side in the 40th minute with the help of a deflection.
Ireland dominated territory but failed to score despite having plenty of chances until Cork COI player Jermyn fired home the equaliser from their sixth penalty corner.
Paul Revington’s side will now face Korea tomorrow at the same venue, with the winner earning a slot at this summer’s Olympic Games in London.
The two sides met in the group stages of the competition, the sides playing out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in arguably the game of the tournament to date.
