BAGHDAD - The Iraqi government, in a bid to mend fences with its Kurdish rebel foes, will resume the supply of electrical power to its northern provinces, the government newspaper al Jumhouriya reported yesterday.

The move was made as Iraqi and UN officials met in New York to discuss implementing an oil for food scheme in which sanctions bound Iraq would be allowed to sell limited amounts of oil in order to ease the suffering of its people.
