Iraq has decided to hold a referendum on the country's draft constitution on October 15th, the head of the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq said today.

The draft, adopted by the Shia- and Kurdish-dominated parliament despite objections from some minority Sunni Arabs, was on its way to the printers and will later be circulated among Iraqi voters, officials said.

Sunni Arabs opposed the draft constitution - mainly over its vision of a strongly federal political system.
