The official IRNA news agency quoted police sources as saying 11 injured people were rushed to hospital in the city of Sanandaj in the province of Kurdistan that straddles the Iraqi border.

Iran has one of the world's highest road accident rates.

IRNA has reported that almost 22,000 people were killed on the Islamic Republic's roads in the year that ended in March.
