Tehran - German businessman Helmut Hofer, sentenced to death in Tehran for having sexual relations with an Iranian woman, is to be released on bail at the weekend pending a final decision in his case, his lawyers said yesterday.
Hofer was sentenced to death by a Tehran court in January 1998. He has repeatedly denied having a relationship with the woman, a 26-year-old medical student identified only as Vahideh G, who was arrested at Tehran airport with him and later sentenced to 100 lashes.
