Tehran - The governor of Iran's Lorestan province was seriously wounded yesterday after being beaten by protesters during the funeral of a policeman killed there in the past few days, reports said.

The Kayhan newspaper said the Governor, Mr Nurollah Abedi, had to be hospitalised after a group of demonstrators beat him before police intervened to take him to safety. This attack follows four days of violent unrest in the region.
