The IRA will honour its commitment to put its arms beyond use, the Sinn Fein vice-president, Mr Pat Doherty, said last night.
He made the claim during a live television programme which went off air at the Ulster Hall eight minutes into the broadcast because of a bomb warning, purportedly from the "Real IRA". However, he claimed on BBC Northern Ireland's Spotlight that he had some doubts about whether the British government would keep its commitments.
The issue of weapons needed to be addressed in its entirety, he said. That meant not just IRA weapons but those held by loyalist paramilitaries, the British Army and by other individuals.
