Ipswich chief executive Simon Clegg has insisted the club remain “fully committed” to keeping Roy Keane in charge at Portman Road.
Keane's future with the Tractor Boys was the subject of speculation over the weekend, with some reports claiming he is in line for the sack this week.
Ipswich’s goalless draw at Swansea City on Saturday lifted them nine points above the Championship relegation zone but failure to make it into the play-offs after a season spent battling for survival has led some to believe Keane's days are numbered.
Not so, says Clegg.
"I'm still fully committed to Roy Keane," he told the Ipswich Evening Star. "It has been a disappointing season but Roy is still building his team.
“I understand there have been some speculation stories but Roy is just starting out to get us where we want to be.”
Given the history of chairmen and owners backing and then sacking their managers, Keane is unlikely to take much notice of the comments but, as he explained yesterday, he rarely does.
“I don’t feel I am under any more pressure and I certainly don’t take any notice of what the newspapers say. I never read them," he said. “If you think I am fearful of losing my job then you are wrong. If I lose my job then I lose my job.
“We want to aim for consistency between now and the end of the season but if the club wants to move me on they will move me on.”
