Gardaí are investigating a Co Monaghan house fire in which a man was killed yesterday.

The 61-year-old man died

as a result of the fire at Corvoy, Tullycorbett, Ballybay, the Garda said in a statement.

The fire was confined to the kitchen area of the house in which the man lived alone.

Gardaí said the incident was discovered at about 2.30pm. The fire had extinguished itself by the time it was discovered.

Gardaí are treating the man’s death as accidental. A postmortem will take place today at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co Louth.
