An investigation has begun after an unmarked garda car crashed into a pub in Dublin early this morning.

The Ford Mondeo crashed into the front door of The Tap premises on North King Street, at around 2 a.m.

It is believed that two plain clothes detectives were in pursuit of another car when the incident occurred.

A garda spokesman said that the officers sustained minor injuries and were treated in hospital but nobody else was injured.

The pub was being emptied at the time and some people were outside on the footpath.

"We are investigating the incident as a road traffic accident," the garda spokesman added.
