The INTO has reacted angrily to a decision by the Minister for Education to impose a freeze on national school building projects, describing it as an "appalling and regressive" move.

Senator Joe O’Toole, the General Secretary of the INTO, said the Union would actively oppose the decision by Dr Michael Woods "with every means".

"We are insisting that the teachers and children in the schools concerned are accommodated in buildings which are of a standard that is acceptable to the parents and the community," he said.

He also alleged the announcement was made without discussion, consultation or agreement with any of the education partners.
