Gardai were yesterday investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 70-yearold man, Mr Patrick Jackson of Marian Row, Ballinagh, in a car park in Cavan town on Saturday.
He was found in the Bridge Street car park at 6.30 p.m.
A Garda spokewoman said gardai were investigating an incident involving Mr Jackson and a number of youths. Mr Jackson was taken to Cavan General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
It is believed he had just arrived at the car park and got out of his car when the incident occurred.
Garda sealed off the area and preserved the scene. An incident centre was set up in Cavan garda station. A number of people have made statements but gardai are appealing for further witnesses to come forward with information about the incident.
The State pathologist, Dr John Harbison, carried out a post-mortem yesterday.
