Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian troops stepped up the slaughter of pigs yesterday to halt a virus outbreak that has killed at least 61 people. The government will try a new culling method using carbon monoxide gas to help speed up the operation.
The Japanese encephalitis virus, spread by culex mosquitoes but harboured in pigs, has prompted a health scare and ravaged Malaysia's £282 million pig-breeding industry.
