Teargas fired on protesters in Iran
TEHRAN – Iranian security forces fired teargas and clashed with anti-government protesters demonstrating against the treatment of opposition leaders, pro-reform websites reported yesterday.
Thousands of demonstrators poured into the streets of Tehran and other cities, chanting slogans against the government, Sahamnews reported.
“Security forces and plainclothes agents fired teargas and clashed with demonstrators in Tehran to disperse them,” website Kaleme reported. Two people were killed and dozens arrested during a February 14th rally. – (Reuters)
Singer Aguilera held for public drunkenness
LOS ANGELES – Singer Christina Aguilera was briefly arrested yesterday after being found drunk in public and deemed unable to take care of herself, police said.
Aguilera (30) spent several hours sobering up in a West Hollywood police station before being released. But officials have no intention of prosecuting her, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told reporters.
The five-time Grammy Award winning singer was a passenger in a car being driven by her boyfriend in the West Hollywood area when police pulled him over for driving erratically. – (Reuters)
