Inquest into road death adjourned

An inquest into the controversial death of a young Co Mayo woman in a road incident six years ago was adjourned again yesterday until March 7th. Aisling Gallagher (22), Achill Island, was killed just before Christmas 2004, when her car crashed on a recently resurfaced stretch of road between Newport and Mulranny.

Tributes to man killed by dogs

Tributes were last night paid to a “very popular and likeable” Waterford man who died after being savaged by dogs in Malaysia on Sunday.

Maurice Sullivan (50), originally from Marymount in Ferrybank in the city, died on Penang island, one of Malaysia’s most popular destinations.

Mr Sullivan, who had been living in Galway for many years, was taking photographs on a farm in Teluk Bahang when the attack occurred. He had been holidaying with his Polish girlfriend, Agnieszka Jablonska (28).

Shoplifter banned from Galway

A Limerick shoplifter was banned from Galway city and county for a year yesterday by Judge Mary Fahy.

Catherine Atkinson (36), Clarina Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, pleaded guilty before Galway District Court to stealing €171 worth of items from Boots, Shop Street, Galway, on May 6th last.
