Teenager charged with murder on bail
A 17-year-old boy charged with the murder of a man in Dublin has been remanded on continuing bail until next week when he is to be served with the book of evidence. The teenage boy was charged on December 24th with the murder of David Rooney (35) at Clonmacnoise Road, Crumlin, Dublin, on July 2nd last year.
Defence solicitor Sarah Molloy said that she was asking for the case to be put back until next week as a woman acting as an independent surety for the boy was not present.
Drug addict jailed for robbery
A Dublin drug addict has been jailed for seven years for a spate of offences including robbery, theft and unlawfully taking cars.
Gary Locke (27), Leighlin Road, Crumlin, initially told gardaí he bought one of the cars he took unlawfully in November 2005 from Travellers. Later he pleaded guilty to these offences and theft at a Terenure Road West home on December 1st, 2005.
He also pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbing €729 from Maxol petrol station, Harold’s Cross using a toy gun.
Three years for syringe attack
A Galway man who held a woman at syringe point in her van in the car park of Liffey Valley shopping centre has been jailed for three years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Michael Lally (30), Curragh Park, Ballinasloe, pleaded guilty to robbing the woman on October 10th, 2007.
Man pleads guilty to possessing gun
A 26-year-old Tallaght man has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to possession of a gun in Dundalk last year.
Thomas Kelly, Killinarden estate, pleaded guilty to possession of a 9mm Glock, semi-automatic pistol and 50 rounds of ammunition at Castletown Road, Dundalk, on July 19th, 2008. He will be sentenced on March 6th.
IRA membership trial postponed
The Special Criminal Court trial of a Dundalk man accused of IRA membership has been postponed until next week to allow the defence to seek a High Court stay in proceedings.
Barry O’Brien (35), Mountain Court, Dundalk, Co Louth, has pleaded not guilty to IRA membership in April, 2004.
Man who ‘found’ ammunition jailed
A Dublin drug abuser who claimed he found 200 shotgun cartridges while searching for golf balls on a GAA pitch has been jailed for four years. Joseph Keirnan (25), Cardy Rock Close, Balbriggan, said he intended to sell the bag of ammunition.
Father accused of sexual abuse
A Westmeath man has gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court charged with sexually assaulting his two daughters and younger brother-in-law over an eight year period. The 44-year-old has pleaded not guilty to a total of 35 charges.
